In 2024 ReelOzInd! celebrates our 9th festival! Our theme is DIVERSITY/KEBERAGAMAN.

For almost a decade, this popular and unique bi-national short film festival has been bringing Australian and Indonesian audiences together to celebrate and enjoy the work of talented and emerging filmmakers from both countries.

The theme of diversity/keberagaman is a familiar concept for Indonesians and Australians. Both of our multicultural societies are stronger for the differences we celebrate and respect in each other. But sometimes we also take this idea or even the word ‘diversity’ for granted. We would love filmmakers to challenge us to think more deeply – out of the box – about what it means in our lives today. In our hyper-connected digital era we have access to the greatest ever range of ideas, cultures, technologies, talents, skills and opinions. We are also more mindful than ever of the difficulties we face in making sure that our communities – both online and offline – remain places that are open to and tolerant of diversity .

Short films (max 10 minutes) are in the running for $15,000 in prizes across categories including Best Short Film, Best Fiction, Best Documentary and Best Young Filmmaker.

Films are judged by a jury of Indonesian and Australian filmmakers, experts and critics.

The festival launches on 24 October in Melbourne at ACMI and in Samarainda at UNMUL. Our pop-up festival will run through until 22 December 2024.
