We are excited to release the festival trailer for ReelOzInd! 2020, our fifth year, offering a sneak peak of some (but not all!) of the shortlisted films that will premiere on Sunday 4 October.
The festival will premiere online streaming via our website starting at 1pm WIB/ 4pm AEST, followed by a discussion with some of our winning filmmakers.
“From dancing in the streets to grappling with boredom during the pandemic lockdowns, this year our filmmakers fill the screen with thought-provoking and inspirational stories of struggle, revelation, humanity and beauty in the everyday and mundane,” says Festival Director Jemma Purdey.
The films screening at the premiere are those judged by our eminent Jury as the best in their category – Fiction, Documentary, Animation and Best Young Filmmaker (13-18 years) – and a selection films awarded special mentions.
“Our festival theme this year is ‘energy/energi’. Filmmakers in Indonesia and Australia have responded to the world shutting down and standing still with stories of spirit/semangat, drive/dorongan and also the antithesis of these attributes, lethargy/kelesuan and listlessness/kemalasan.”
At a time when cultural exchange between Australia and Indonesia has largely come to a standstill due to travel restrictions, ReelOzInd! is an opportunity to continue to highlight the importance of the relationship and bring Australian and Indonesian storytelling to audiences in both countries and beyond.
ReelOzInd!’s first fully online festival marks the third year of our partnership with Creative Victoria. In 2019, the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau opened the Festival’s Premiere screening in Bandung, West Java. ReelOzInd! is extremely excited to continue this partnership, which this year also includes featuring the Festival on the Together Victoria online cultural hub.
