Judges

Andrew Mason

Andrew Mason is a producer with more than 30 years of industry experience in film and television production. He produced New Line’s kafkaesque thriller Dark City in 1998, directed by Alex Proyas. Between 1998 and 2003 he served as producer or executive producer for films including the Waschowski brothers’ The Matrix and its sequels, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions.

More recently, under the banner Hopscotch Pictures, he has produced Adoration (2013); I, Frankenstein, Saving Mr Banks and The Water Diviner starring Russell Crowe. He has also served in a number of official roles including Deputy Chair on the board of the Screen NSW, the board of the Sydney Film Festival, and the Council of Australian Film Television & Radio School.

Cika Prihadi

Fransiska Prihadi is Program Director of MINIKINO Film Week (MFW) Bali International Short Film Festival. She’s also an architect, out-of-school education entrepreneur. She pursued short film appreciation since 2007 while maintaining her network in the world of architecture, philanthropy and film production. Fransiska is a member of SEA Shorts, Malaysia 2017 and 2018 selection committee.

Novi Kurnia

Novi Kurnia is a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. She is also a researcher at Pemantau Regulasi dan Regulator Media (PR2Media, Media Regulation and Regulator Research Centre), Yogyakarta. Kurnia finished her PhD study at Flinders University, South Australia, in 2014. Her thesis about women film directors and their films in post-New Order Indonesia. She also completed her master program at Flinders University in 2007 by writing a thesis about the discourse of polygamy in Indonesian cinema.

Kurnia is also the founder and chair-person of IF!fest (Indonesian Film Festival) held in Adelaide in 2006, 2008 & 2009. She has organised and served as a jury member for several film festivals in her hometown, Yogyakarta. Her main interest is film, media, gender and cultural studies. Her works published in national and international journals and books.

Krishna Sen

Professor Krishna Sen is former Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Western Australia, and is an internationally recognised scholar of contemporary Indonesian and media studies. Krishna is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities (FAHA) and founding member of the Australian Research Council’s Asia Pacific Futures and Cultural Research Network.

Kamila Andini

Born in Jakarta, May 1986, Andini finished her studies in Sociology and Media Arts at Deakin University, Melbourne. Her interest in issues of social culture, gender equity and the environment lead to her passion to make films with a distinctive storytelling perspective.

Her first feature film ‘The Mirror Never Lies’ travelled to more than 30 festivals around the world and received many awards. Her second feature ‘The Seen and Unseen’ has its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival 2018, and has since won several awards including the Grand Prix International Jury Prize, Berlinale Kplus 2018. The dance-theatre performance ‘The Seen and Unseen’ premiered at AsiaTOPA in Melbourne in February 2020.

Ucita Pohan

Ucita Pohan is a Radio Broadcaster for Cosmopolitan FM, MC, author and host of the podcast ListenUp. A communications graduate, Ucita was an early adopter of blogging and is today one of Indonesia’s most followed social influencers. She is passionate about art and fashion and empowering women to reach their potential.

Ruby Challenger

Ruby Challenger is an emerging Australian film producer and director. Her first short film, Daily Bread, had its World Premiere at Flickerfest 2018 and won Best Film and Best Fiction at ReelOzInd! 2018. She has worked for the last decade across both Art and Costume departments, often in the roles of Art Director, Production Designer and Costume Designer.

Also an artist, she has had three sell-out solo exhibitions of her landscape paintings. With a background in fine art and fashion, Ruby takes inspiration from a variety of visual sources to inform her filmmaking, as well as a deep passion for telling stories that tap into the universal human experience.

Julian Lucas

Julian is a comedy director and writer with a focus on performance and a strong aesthetic. There is no doubt that he sees the world a little differently. His films have stood up at international film festivals in New York and London, as well as locally, winning awards (Tropfest 2014, ‘Granny Smith’) and earning praise (Vimeo Staff Picks, ‘Bloom’) along the way.
