The ReelOzInd! Australia Indonesia Short Film Competition and Festival returns for its sixth year with the theme koneksi/connection.
Over the past five years ReelOzInd! has brought together a community of emerging and established filmmakers and audiences in Indonesia and Australia. As Festival Director Jemma Purdey explains, this creative community has found innovative and extraordinary ways to continue to share their work throughout the past year.
“During this time of continuing pandemic, when we are kept apart from our loved ones and neighbours by restrictions imposed locally and internationally, these relationships and connections have taken on a new and enhanced value in peoples’ lives that will shape our societies into the future.” says Purdey.
“koneksi/connection is the antithesis of the isolation and separateness we have all experienced in 2020/21, and acknowledges the strength of human ingenuity and spirit that will always pull us towards making connections – social, spiritual, environmental – in whatever way we can.”
Submissions will open in FilmFreeway on 19 April and close on 1 August. With a $AUD15,000 prize pool on offer, the short films are judged by our Jury of leading film professionals and critics and in both Indonesia and Australia.
Announcements of our 2021 Jury will be made in the coming weeks.
The Festival will launch in October and run through to December 2021. It will continue with an online model established last year that provides filmmakers and audiences greater freedom and flexibility to view the films and engage with each other.
Through sharing our stories, ReelOzInd! enables valuable community connections and goodwill to be forged throughout Indonesia, Australia and beyond.
Established in 2016, ReelOzInd! has reached over 80 communities in both countries with a live audience of thousands and an ever-growing online presence bolstered by 2020’s online-only festival and supporting ReelOzInd! Retrospective 2016-2019 initiative.
